Work is gathering great pace at Groundwork Caerphilly’s new Ty Mynyddislwyn Environment Centre.
Groundwork Caerphilly was awarded £731,971 by the Big Lottery Fund in 2010 to take ownership of Ty Mynyddislwyn from Caerphilly County Borough Council, and run activities including employment and training advice, environmental volunteering and the promotion of sustainability, local craft enterprises are also set to benefit.
The building, erected in 1913 was the former Islwyn Council Building and is grade II listed.
Further funding was then sourced via CFAP and Caerphilly County Borough Council, allowing full refurbishment of the existing office building as well as installation of a demonstration kitchen, where fresh produce grown by Groundwork Caerphilly’s volunteers can be utilised in healthy cooking sessions.
Katy Stevenson, Executive Director said, "We are absolutely thrilled with the work so far – it has already made such a big difference, and we can really see things starting to take shape now.
"These developments will allow us to operate from a state of the art facility, providing great office space with training and media rooms and more benefit to the community both locally and further afield. We are looking forward to celebrating our 21st Anniversary and Launch of the new Environment Centre in November."
