The Welsh Government wants to drastically reduce the number of carrier bags given away in Wales.

From 1st October 2011 there is a minimum charge of 5p on all single use carrier bags with the net proceeds from the charge passed on to good causes in Wales, particularly environmental projects.

Peacocks, the Wales based fashion retailer is asking its customers to vote for Welsh charities to benefit from a donation from the proceeds of its 5p carrier bag charge, Groundwork is one of those charities.

Customers can vote for Groundwork by collecting a nomination form at store tills, ticking the Groundwork option (top right) and handing the form back to staff. Voting is open until the end of October.

A vote for Groundwork will help us to continue to continue to deliver projects that create better neighbourhoods, build skills and job prospects and help us all live and work in a greener way.

We focus our activity on disadvantaged communities where we can make most difference. Across Wales during 2010/2011:

  • We planted more than 7,900 trees, improved and maintained over 3,877,000 sq metres of land;
  • Groundwork in Wales supported over 134,700 days of volunteering by young people and adults;
  • More than 285 schools engaged with Groundwork in Wales and our activities;
