Level One Information

There are five main elements to Level One of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard.

Level One - Commitment to Environmental Management:

  • Responsibility and Resources: This involves senior management commiting the organisation to addressing its impacts on the environment, implementing an environmental management system (EMS) and appointing an 'Environmental Champion'.
  • Environmental Review: An inital Environmental Review should be carried out to identify those activities, products or services that have or could have an impact on the environment, as well as establishing the scope and boundaries of the EMS.
  • Environmental Policy: Taking into account all of the issues highlighted as part of the initial Environmental Review, the organisation should develop an Environmental Policy, which should also act as a guiding document for all future improvements.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Following on from the Environmental Policy, the organisation should establish an environmental monitoring procedure to identify, monitor and maintain data on energy and water consumption, waste and water discharge and legal compliance.
  • Improvement Plan: The organisation should prepare a plan to improve its environmental management and performance, addressing its impact on the environment, with realistic, appropriate and measurable objectives. It should be reviewed and amended as necessary to reflect progress towards objectives.

Organisations achieving the Level One Standard will receive a certificate demonstrating their commitment to environmental management and their company details will be registered on the Green Dragon website.

Any company or organisation can apply for the Green Dragon Environmental Standard.
